What’s Going On at White Rose Canoe - March 2023

Remember when the water was warm, the sun out and the river full? That time is coming around again, soon. In the meantime, here are some other reminders...

March 16 Gather: Choosing a Canoe and Picking a Paddle - Making It Easy...

There are a lot of choices out there - for both canoes and paddles. We’ll use canoes and paddles in the shop to illustrate the key differences between types, share info on how designs are “tuned” for different kinds of water and paddling and why they work and we’ll be answering your questions as we go along.

Gather starts at 7pm - in person at the shop (best) or via Zoom. There is still time to sign up!!

April 1st Deadline for canoes on May 6 Nova Craft Special Order Truck + Demo Day

Nova Craft Special Orders: We’re repeating this announcement again because we think this is a great opportunity, especially given the supply chain issues over the last couple of years. Nova Craft has stated that (absent surprise) any special order or pre-sold canoes on the books by April 1st will be delivered on a May 6 Nova Craft Demo Day Truck - you’ll be able to come, join in the fun and pick up your new boat!

So: If you are considering a Nova Craft as your next canoe, give us a call.

  • If we have it in stock (we have a good selection), you’re all set at current prices.

  • If we have it on order, we’ll take a deposit to reserve it for you.

  • If it’s not on order, we’ll take a deposit and submit the order.

  • As long as reservations/orders are on the books by April 1st, (absent surprise) the canoe will be on the truck for May 6.

May 6 Nova Craft Demo Day: We’re partnering with Nova Craft to host a demo day on Saturday, May 6. We’ll have the Nova Craft Director of Sales on site to answer your questions, boats to demo, bling to raffle, and other activities. More details to follow, but lock this in on your calendar now!

April 20 Gather: Gear - Whaddya Need, When. Share Session.

Gear - all those the bits and bobs that make a paddle both safer and more comfortable. They’re also the things that can be the topic of almost infinite discussion among paddlers — What’s needed under what conditions? What represents a “basic” kit that should always be in the canoe? What’s the next thing you should get? What works best for what trip (the shotgun you might want in the Little North might not be the thing you want in your boat paddling on the town lake)?

This Gather works best if everyone brings some of their gear to the meeting. We’ll bring our own kits and the gear wall at the shop, and we’ll get things started. We’ll start with the basics, the move onto additional gear that is useful across a broad range of paddling, and then into some more specialized areas - such as tripping, quick water, and other topics folks are curious about or experienced in.

This is a great session for all levels of paddlers - and the type of session we like best - canoeists sharing info, asking questions, finding out new stuff, making contacts.

Another GREAT Event

Whether you're just getting started or are a veteran paddler, The Maine Canoe Symposium offers a variety of programming to meet all skill levels.

The weekend incorporates the wide range of workshops on various paddling techniques, including basic recreational, competitive, freestyle, and whitewater, as well as traditional canoe tripping and poling.

It also offers a companion children's program which includes kid-friendly activites, like low-ropes and paracute games to canoe safety and even paddling their own canoe! and includes a separate special program for kids of all ages.

MCS provides the instruction, canoes, paddles, PFDs, and anything else you need to get out on the water. Or bring your own gear.
FWIW - I’ve been to this event for the last five and it’s great every time!! Keith

That’s the March edition of our newsletter. It’s a bit (lot?) later than we liked, but stuff (nothing dramatic) happens. We’ll try to get back on schedule in April. As always, please provide feedback, suggestions for content and activity, canoe related events or news you’d like to share. We love to get your input.

Take care!

Micheal and Keith
